Workshop: Ekphrastic Writing - Art and the Word
Sunday March 8 from 12-2 pm
Art on Main, Bristol
Presenters: Annie Perkins and Meara Harrison
We invite writers at all levels to the gallery to share our excitement for both the written word and visual art. Ekphrastic writing is simply an individual’s written reaction to a work of art - in this case you could choose the more traditional route of a painting or photograph or let yourself be absorbed by a ceramic bowl, textile or piece of jewelry. Ekphrastic writing can be vividly descriptive, give voice to the subject or the artist and take whatever imaginative leaps the viewer may feel.
We will talk a bit about Ekphrastic, choose our subject then move to our individual writing. We will then regroup to share our work and the experience (optional). Bring a notebook for your writing and anything else you need to feel comfortable on a folding chair.

Workshop: Discover Your Inner Poet
Saturday, February 21st | 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM | Lawrence Memorial Library
Presenter: David Weinstock
Hiding deep inside you is a treasure of amazing poetry, poems which only you can write. The world is waiting to read them! In this workshop, designed for writers at all levels of experience, you will learn several nearly-magical tricks to find and release your talented inner poet. Let’s bring those hidden poems into the world. This will be a “generative” workshop; by the end of our two hours together each of us will have one or more new poems, and some new ways of finding ways to write them. We will explore ourselves to find the possibilities, and also to identify anything might keep your poetry from emerging.
David Weinstock is a Middlebury poet, the founder and leader of the weekly Otter Creek Poets workshop at the Ilsley Public Library since 1997. Questions? Email david.weinstock@gmail.com.

Workshop: Poetry, Prose & Exploring the Subconscious
Sunday, February 15th | 12-2 PM
The Tillerman dining room
Presenter: Gwen Rodgersoon
Whether you identify as a writer or not, if you feel called to play with and discover your creative voice, this workshop is for you. Through our time together we will break through creative blocks with exercises to tune into our personal experiences and transform them into poetry and prose, through stream of consciousness writing and guided prompts. Drawing from what inspires us, and our own life experiences, we will experiment with our own unique styles and voices. We will explore our passions, and our pain points; grounding, centering, and diving into our creative wells as we write and discuss the creative process and experience. The purpose of this workshop is to inspire and unlock the creative juices, to let go of perfectionism or self-judgement, and excavate our inner worlds in order to transmute and alchemize our thoughts, feelings, inspirations, ecstasy and yes, pain, into words. We will also explore other writers’ published works for inspiration. Sharing what you write is encouraged but never required.
There are 20 spaces available for this workshop. To reserve your space, please register below.
